Regular readings of vibration will give indication
of deterioration of bearings, gears and couplings. This system will
also identify insecurity, misalignment and out of balance faults.
The following example is pulled directly from one of our reports for a client in the power generation industry
No1 Condensate Pump: -
Motor. The DE bearing envelope spectrum shows small peak and harmonics
19.5Hz typical cage defect frequency. Peak amplitudes are less that
10dB above the carpet level. No action at this time.
Pump. Both the DE and NDE bearing envelope spectra show 20dB peak
and harmonics of shaft speed. The NDE bearing envelope spectrum also
shows 30dB peak and harmonics of 387.25Hz (Outer Race Ball Pass) with
30dB shaft speed sidebands. The NDE velocity spectrum shows 8.3mm/s
at shaft speed. There are indications of both a bearing fault and
out of balance on the pump. These bearings are oil lubricated and
the reservoir was full at the time of the test. Check the general
security of this unit. Check the shaft for lift and replace the bearings
if necessary.
This is the pump NDE bearing envelope spectrum. It
shows the harmonics of 49.777Hz shaft speed, the peak and harmonic
of Outer Race Ball Pass frequency (ORBP) and the 50Hz sidebands from
the 1x ORBP peak. You may also be able to pick out the 50Hz sidebands
on the 2x ORBP peak.
